quote: As some of you may or may not have noticed, Windows 2000 has a little warning that pops up whenever an unsigned (by Microsoft) driver is installed/loaded. Unfortunately, MS plans on extending this warning to ALL UNSIGNED APPLICATIONS for windows whistler. This means that not only will it be hella annyoing to use visual basic now, but eventually it might be NO LONGER POSSIBLE to run home-made apps on your windows box.On top of that a new security method for software piracy will be implemented for all MS products. Supposedly the software will have to be activated via phone. Sounds pretty fool proof to me, but a big hassle.
What? why would it ever lead to not being able to run home-made programs on a windows box? How could that ever be? And why would it be annoying to use vb? vb would be signed, and therefore all applications made with vb would be signed. You can also turn the unsigned driver notification off on windows 2000. There is no way Microsoft would ever make it so you can't run your own home-made applications. If they did, minor software companies wouldn't be able to market their programs. That would take Microsoft to court once again. And that new security measure for all MS products, you know theres gonna be a crack out for that. And say it had to be activated by phone, what if that person had to reformat? then he would have to call again right? and what if he was installing it on a network, and had say 50 site liscences, he would have to make 50 phone calls. Big hassle, too big. In theory it would work, but i think that it would be too time consuming, and would cost too much money. After all, you know microsoft is in it for the money. They wouldn't spend a ton of money on something like that, what about software updates, as soon as the next version comes out, and a few years past, people could be calling about the old software. ------------------ kraproom.com staff http://kraproom.com/terry IP: Logged |

Dont ask me terry, these are words coming directly out of the mouth of an MS employee. I was wondering if a person had to call up or if the software it self needed an internet connection or modem or somthing... I dont exactly know how it works. As for unsigned applications, that error would come up every time you compiled or ran a project with unsigned code, or that is how it is working right now. Maybe it'll be different by the time we see it. ------------------ -pacman- AIM: pac "Why must I always be surrounded by such IDIOTS?!?" IP: Logged |
