Piff, what you just said was completely ridiculous. Of course our world is overpopulated. Ever since modern medicine came around more people are being born than are dying, that isn't exactly a good thing. Nature never intended for humans to live to 100 years old, let alone 60. People think how horrid AIDS or Black Death are, but in reality things like that are needed in order to keep the population down. I give this earth 150-200 years before we have to evacuate. We are using up fossil fules too fast, polluting to much, and having too many babies. And then we go to another planet, suck up all its resources, and move on. Over and over and over again. Ehh, you know I love these discussions and I usually read every post but quite honestly this time I didn't (but I read a lot >;P). Somethings I noticed that I'd like to comment on are ...When Dave talked about Republicans freeing the slaves ... sure, but that was then - this is now. The parties have changed around drastically. What Zach said about Einstein being easily replaced [not exact words]. I think that if Einstein wasn't born then we wouldn't have made the discoveries he did by the year 2000. Probably some time in the future but like ... not for a long time. Just because everyone knows "E equals MC squared" doesn't mean it's a simple concept. Oh well, I do agree with you that your average person won't make a significant difference. IP: Logged |

people don't go hungry or without homes because there isn't enough food or room to go around. Some places in the world are overpopulated such as china, japan, and india...but look at places like canada, mexico, america, africa, there's more than enough room there. The problem isn't our planet its the people who live on it...we're greedy by nature. Did you know the great depression was started not because we didn't have enough of something but because we had a surplus of near everything? So the greedy fatcats get upset that since the surplus is so great their stock shoots straight down...so how do they solve their money problems? They dump a ton of food into the ocean, smart huh? That's not the single reason of the great depression but its one of the big ones. There's more than enough food on this planet to feed everyone, the problem is the economy. We live in a world where people DIE just because they live in a 3rd world country where like less than 5% of the population hold like 98% of the money (those aren't facts but I know its something like that) If people weren't so ****ing greedy then the world would be a happy and jolly place where everyone had a warm bed to sleep on and food in their stomach. We wouldn't have to abort babies because we already have 9 other kids to support, people wouldn't get so desperate for money that they feel the need to rob a bank then out of panic shoot 8 people and in turn get the death penalty. Not to say there aren't some stupid, psycho, desensitized mother ****ers out there who'd commit these acts whether or not they were rich or poor...but if more than half the worlds population wasn't living in poverty these problems wouldn't be so prominant in our society today. Of course I'm not including the lazy bum's who are afraid to work for a living...those people can rot and die for all I care. I think one of the main problems in society today is how the children of today can't relate to the working class since so many of you are spoiled who've never had to worry about money. That's how you can have such a low opinion of life and "rebel" against everything...you've never been in the real world, you've had everything handed to you. On a lighter note...who thinks the new Godzilla is gonna kick ass? I do. ------------------

I'm pretty sure Tom is right. Lincoln was part of the Republican party, and he was partly responsible for freeing the slave but since then the parties have actually switched places. I agree with that. I don't think we would have everything we have today if Einstein had never been born. Also, I don't think there would be one person who made all the significant discoveries that he did. I think it would have to be a number of people. I also don't believe that your average person will make a significant difference but where do you draw the line at what's significant and what isn't? Also, you can't tell just by looking at somebody whether they're just your average Joe or whether they might become something out of the norm. *you know, I didn't think the first Godzilla was all that bad. I don't think I'll be going to see the sequal though. ------------------

Actually, they do. There aren't enough resources to go around. Look around, there are farmers all over, yet there isn't enough food. Well, hmm, build more farms! This is kinda off topic, but maybe not. We as a human race are ignorant and destructive by nature. In the many millions of years that dinosaurs ruled the planet, they destroyed less in that complete time than we do in 50 years. If we are not more careful with our environment, we will find ourselves like the Aliens in Independence Day. Moving in a large spaceship from planet to planet, destroying its inhabitants, and using all of its resources, until they are depleted and we must move on. According to Mayan Culture, sometime in December in the year 2012 their Gods will cleanse the Earth of all peoples who are not more wary(sp?) of the environment. Although this sounds farfetched, it really isn't. Although the likelyhood is low, with the number of natural disasters on the rise, an earthquake and high impact hurricane could completely wipe out LA and much of the east coast, and more earthquakes could ravage China, which already has a problem with overpopulation, wiping out a couple of billion people. For the Earth's sake I hope this does happen, although a lot of innocent people will perish. Maybe then we will learn to respect the Earth more.
P.S. I am not a tree hugger, I just don't want 95% of the world having trouble eating because there isn't enough food for the population

2,4,8,16,32,64,128,256,512...
while food sources grow like this:
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9...
See, big difference, which is why we need more food sources so they can grow at a high enough rate to keep up with the population. Overpopulation doesn't always have to do with space, but rather food. But even more frightening than our overpopulation is that we can't lower it. If we try to lower it buisnesses will go under for lack of jobs, there will be too many elderly people and not enough young people too take care of them. so we just have to ride this and not let our population go up too much until it flattens out in which case we can raise the death rate slightly higher than the birth rate, and thenwe may cease being overpopulated, but that is way beyond our time, and once we can do that, it may be too late. overpopulation is very dangerous, and a real threat today. I am a strong supporter of the Zero Population Growth method of controlling the worlds population. Too bad most fcukers dont care and have kid after kid after kid. I know I will only have 2 children when I have a family, one to replace me and one to replace my wife. Thats IT, no more. Zero Growth.------------------

While all you people are baggin on piff, I actually agree with most of what he has said lately. we (the world) are feeding way less people than we could be. look at the US. We (Americans) have soooo much food that people are actually allergic to some of it. Do you think starving kids in Africa or anywhere else are lactose intollerant? (sp?)I mean c'mon. we have so many fat people and waste so much food, its amazing. look at yourselves. 'oh, i dont really want this half of the pizza. i'll just chuck it.' We have so much that we dont use, and i am the same way. we dont think of it when we throw old food away, but were letting things rot when others could be having good meals. We are so priviledged as Americans, but we are so used to it that we dont even notice it. We have bums in New York making $20+k/yr on the stuff people give them. The simple fact of the matter is that we need to start controlling the population. Make abortion non-taboo... get it in to the mainstream as something we don't care if people do. When abortion rates rise, the hunger rates decrease... i'll bet someone 5 bucks. Ok, I don't want people to lose their basic rights, but does ANYONE need 10 kids, let alone 5? I didn't think so. Something has to be done about the birth rate, because people are being born faster than they are dieing (sp?), and its upsetting the natural balance of things. I don't think casual abortion would do the trick, just because there wouldn't be enough people doing it. Theres people out there who WANT to have 8 or 10 kids, and that just disgusts me. If anyone ever comes up with a solution, it couldn't just be a casual thing, because stupid people won't take part in it, it would have to be enforced. I think how bad it was (is?) that China limited the number of children a person could have...but the more I think about the more something like that is needed.Allen IP: Logged |

I don't know if abortion is the solution to the population growth but something that would sure help is other forms of birth control. People in the United States and other countries need to have birth control readily available to them and they need to be educated about it. Also, <joking> Catholics need to make birth control legal in their religion. I have 2 Catholic families that live near me that are like ****ing rabbits, they both have at least 7 yound kids. They need to get their tubes tied.<joking>------------------

I was joking, so from now on I will tell you when I'm being sarcastic or joking. I don't know if abortion is the solution to our overpopulation but I definetly think birth control could be. We need to make things like the pill more readily available not only here in the U.S. but especially in other countries. We really should make a limit on how many kids you can have, like in China where they're only allowed to have 1. I have these 2 Catholic families who live near me who have 7 and 8 kids. Allen, the fact that China implemented such practices is a NOT a drawing point. The Chinese are under fascist rule. You can't take away people's right to procreate. You can however make abortion non-taboo, distribute birth control in schools. Educate the youth about birth control and over population. These are steps to maintaining or even exponentially decreasing population. Also, making birth control and abortions free would be great steps toward a happier earth.IP: Logged |

Chinas rule is all fine and dandy but it still didn't change anything. The rule is if you have more than 2 kids you pay serious fines every month and way higher taxes. People still kept having their kids and just abandoning them. Thats why China has more abandoned children than any other country in the world. Stupid rule.------------------
