Robert Caskin Prince III, also known as Bobby Prince, has died at the age of 81. The iconic video game composer and sound designer worked on classic FPS video games Doom, Doom II, Wolfenstein 3D, Quake, and Duke Nukem 3D back in the 1990s and his work helped legitimize video game music as an artform.
The sad news was made publc via an obituary posted on legacy.com:
Robert Caskin “Bobby” Prince III, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, veteran, attorney, musician, composer, and friend, passed peacefully into Heaven’s Musical Gates on June 16, 2026.
The online memorial for Prince offers people an opportunity to send flowers or plant a tree in his name.
Prince had a long life that was not limited to the video games industry. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and became a lawyer before composing some of the most iconic video game songs of all time.
