what stranglehold did was contain a whitelist of the whole scene’s screen names. it would fill chats with placeholder bots. a whitelisted screen name would IM the stranglehold bot, be invited to the chat, a placeholder bot would be removed for a 10 second window, giving them opportunity to join the full, peaceful, no scrolling chat before the placeholder bot would re-join if they missed the window.
it was to defeat dennis scroll bots. he was defeated. that’s the story of how i saved aim chats in 2009.
